FAQ

Q. Who are you?
A. My name is Amber, nice to meet you!

Q. Are you a doctor?
A. No, I'm a Nurse Practitioner.

Q. What's the difference?
A. A Nurse Practitioner practices nursing, a doctor practices medicine. Practically, this means very little to you in a clinic setting. I can prescribe medications, make referrals, perform PAP smears and breast exams (and prostate exams!), and make a diagnosis. As a nurse, though, I care about....wait for it....the TOTAL PATIENT. I look at how your home setting make be affecting your diabetes, or why you aren't taking your medications as directed and then look for solutions.

Q. Are you going to become a doctor?
A. No. I'm a Nurse Practitioner. It doesn't promote that way. Doctors go to medical school. Nurses go to nursing school. SOME nurses CHOOSE to go to medical school. They're crazy. :)

Q. Don't doctors care about me too?
A. Yes! Of course! We're just trained differently and those differences sometimes come across in the care we deliver.

Q. What kind of experience do you have?
A. I worked as an RN on a Tele/Oncology unit in a hospital. After that I worked as a hospice nurse. Once I finished my NP certificate I began working in a community clinic. I worked there for several years, got married and moved to the LA area where I work at another community clinic.

Q. What kinds of patients do you see?
A. I see black, white, Mexican, Guatemalan, Honduran, Filipino, Congan, Ghanan, El Salvadorean, Armenian, East Indian, old, young, male, female, healthy, sick, gay, straight. Basically, everyone. Everyone needs healthcare, right?

Q. I have a problem with ______, what should I do?!
A. Go find a primary care physician! I am not your NP, nor am I giving medical/nursing advice. Please consult your personal provider.
