This will be an evolving list....Here are the basics.
DM- Diabetes Mellitus
HTN- Hypertension
GERD- Gastro-esophageal reflux disease, aka, acid reflux aka heartburn.
NP- Nurse Practitioner, an RN who has a Bachelors degree, a Masters degree AND an additional NP certificate. National certification is preferred, not required. Yet.
PA- Physicians Assistant, a Bachelors graduate who has completed a PA program. In the past, PAs did NOT need a Masters degree, however, I believe this is changing. This position was created after WWII and was comprised of medics who served in the armed forces but weren't doctors, technically. This provided a way for them to work upon returning home.
PCP- Primary Care Physician/Provider. I use this term to mean Dr, NP, and PA, interchangeably.
SOB- Short/ness of breath.
